Vaini embankment crack/ Expert: Provisional solution is not enough, independent

This Monday, a new crack created in the Vaini Valley embankment has raised concerns about further flooding in the Lezha area.

In a television appearance, field expert Jak Gjini explained that the problem arises because the lagoon waters merge with the sea waters and do not have a separate outlet.

According to the expert, in this case, a provisional alternative is not enough, but a permanent solution is needed to avoid future problems for the area and its residents.  

"Now, we have already learned well what has happened here with this situation. So, because the waters of the reservoir must discharge completely into the sea, they are either separated and come partially into the sea or partially.

If the mouth of the dam does not work, and in this situation there was a wound that was closed, that wound opened again.

So, this is a warning, it is one, one, a maintenance during these days, a more careful observation, but anyway this is, it is a provisional solution.

The permanent solution that creates stability is always that the lagoon must communicate with the sea through a special water exchange, not by joining the waters of the reservoir.

And here there have been attempts before to solve this situation, but they have not gone to finalize it.

There is a need for a dredge or another digging tool that opens the mouths and that must be installed there throughout the year.

It was calculated many years ago that it would take one, at that time there were more of these excavators, to work all year round and it is estimated that an amount of 30,000 dollars would be spent for a year of maintenance to make the lagoons and the hydropower plant work independently and perform the function that the hydropower plant has", declared Gjini. /CNA
