Israeli ambassador on protests: Internal problems are being attributed to Jews,

The Israeli Ambassador to Albania, Galit Peleg, has commented on the protests held in recent days in Albania and the banners with anti-Israeli slogans.

In an interview, the ambassador said that the protests show that Albania is a democracy and that citizens freely express their opinions.

He further added that the banners reminded him of an element seen in Germany in the 1930s, when the country's internal problems were blamed on the Jewish minority. He also stressed that it is fake news that Israel or Jews are buying territories in Albania.

"Protests are a very good thing. They show that Albania is a democracy and that citizens can freely express their opinions. I completely understand the concerns of the protesters. But what we saw with Israel was very unfortunate. Some people are trying to use a legitimate protest to promote other, even dangerous, agendas.

When I saw the posters where Prime Minister Rama was portrayed as a religious Jew, with Jewish symbols, it reminded me of elements we saw in Germany in the 1930s, when the country's internal problems were blamed on the Jewish minority. Using internal issues and attributing them to the Jews is a very dangerous path.

"I want to say it clearly: it is fake news that Israel or the Jews are buying Albania or Albanian territories. We live in the time of artificial intelligence and it is very easy to produce fake images or news. We live in the time of artificial intelligence and it is very easy to produce fake images or news," she said.

The ambassador also said that there are actors who do not want to see good relations between Israel and Albania, while adding that these events could damage the sense of security that Israelis feel when visiting Albania.

"I have no doubt that it is a very small group of people who are poisoning these protests. I also have no doubt that there are actors who do not want to see good relations between Israel and Albania. They cannot change history or the friendship between the two peoples, but they can damage the sense of security and hospitality that Israelis feel when they visit Albania. And this would be a loss for Albania, because hospitality and tolerance are among its most valuable assets ," Peleg said. /CNA
