Apple launches new Digital ID/Personal Identity now on iPhone and Apple Watch

Apple on November 12 introduced its new Digital ID, a feature that allows users to create an electronic identification document in Apple Wallet, using information from their U.S. passport. Once set up, the ID can be used for secure verification via Face ID or Touch ID, directly from their iPhone or Apple Watch.

Apple Pay and Wallet vice president Jennifer Bailey said the new feature "strengthens secure and convenient ways to store and present personal identity," emphasizing the privacy and security of users' data.

Apple announced that ID data is encrypted and stored locally on the device, with no access from the company. Initially, Digital ID will be used at TSA checkpoints at over 250 US airports, with plans to expand use in the future.
