Eight footballers test positive for doping at World Cup

Eight Tunisian national team players tested positive for doping during the 2026 World Cup, according to reports published by The Times.

Traces of clenbuterol, a substance banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency, were found in their samples. However, according to preliminary information, no disciplinary measures are expected, as it is suspected that the substance entered the body through the consumption of contaminated meat.

The Tunisian national team was based in Monterrey during the tournament, an area where similar cases of unintentional contamination have been reported in the past. The names of the players involved have not been made public and no disciplinary proceedings have been opened so far.

Tunisia finished bottom of Group F at the World Cup after losses to Sweden, Japan and the Netherlands. After a 5-1 defeat in the first match, Sabri Lamouchi was sacked as coach and Herve Renard took charge for the remainder of the tournament.
