Erling Haaland scored both goals in Norway's victory over Brazil, but goalkeeper Orjan Nyland played a crucial role in the 2-1 success in the round of 16 of the World Cup.

The 35-year-old goalkeeper saved Bruno Guimaraes' penalty and then made several saves from Vinicius Junior and Endrick. Nyland also benefited from FIFA's decision to bar Nikita Haikin from representing Norway, remaining first-choice in goal.

Haikin had obtained a Norwegian passport earlier in the year, but his application was rejected due to residency rules and previous appearances for Russia U21. After the match, Nyland described the match against Brazil as the most important match of his career.

He thanked his family for their support during the difficult years of his career. The goalkeeper, who is currently without a team after leaving Sevilla, hopes to continue his career and appearing at the World Cup could open up new opportunities for him.
