Ahead of the match against Albania on June 7, the atmosphere in the Serbia camp is far from calm.

Coach Dragan Stojkovic has come under criticism for leaving out players like Milinkovic-Savic and Svilar.

In a press conference, he reacted sharply, emphasizing that the selections for the national team belong only to the coach. Stojkovic said that he will not beg anyone to play for Serbia. He made it clear that he will only invite those who deserve the place.

"Svilar? I can go to Rome, have lunch, have a coffee or watch a match. But I'm not going to beg anyone to come to Serbia. That will never happen. Not Svilar, but whoever wants to.

If I am the problem, I will resign immediately after this conference. I don't think it is true that I am the problem. These are players who saw that they have no place in the national team and said they will not come. The national team needs players who deserve it.

"Everything is based on merit, let them get upset with me as much as they want. That's their job. As long as I'm here, I decide who plays. The players have to show me that they deserve to be here," Stojkovic said.

Serbia is part of the qualifying group with England, Albania, Andorra and Latvia.
