Historic victory for Newcastle, the English touch qualification

Newcastle have recorded their biggest win in European competition, beating Qarabag 6-1 in Baku.

Despite the 4,000-kilometre journey and injury concerns, Eddie Howe's side sealed the win in the first half. Anthony Gordon opened the scoring in the third minute, while Malick Thiaw doubled the lead with a header in the 10th minute.

The English dominance continued with two more goals from Gordon, one from a penalty and the other after a mistake by the home defense, as he completed the hat-trick within 60 seconds.

Before the end of the first half, Gordon scored his fourth personal goal with another penalty, after a brief argument with captain Trippier over who should take the kick.

Gordon reaches the 10-goal mark this Champions League season, ranking second behind Kylian Mbappe.

In the second half, Qarabag scored a consolation goal through Elvin Cafarguliyev, but Jacob Murphy sealed the final score 6-1 with a shot from outside the area.

With this triumph, Newcastle is almost qualified for the round of 16.
