Arsenal make the first move, secure the midfielder for 60 million euros

Arsenal have secured their first signing of the season, having reached a full agreement with Real Sociedad for the transfer of Spanish midfielder Martín Zubimendi.

The move represents an important step in building the squad for the 2025–2026 season and also marks the London club's first move in the market under Andrea Berta as new sporting director.

The 26-year-old midfielder has given his approval for the long-term contract offered to him by the English club and now only the formal steps are awaited to finalize the transfer, including the activation of the release clause, which is worth 60 million euros.

Zubimendi is a product of Real Sociedad's academy, the club where he has gone through all stages of his development as a footballer. He has played in 232 matches for the Basque first team, contributing 10 goals and 9 assists in all competitions.

During his time at Sociedad, he won the Copa del Rey once in the 2019/2020 season and is considered one of the most consistent players in La Liga in the role of destructive midfielder.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has long been an admirer of Zubimendi, closely following his performances in the Spanish league.
