OFFICIAL/ Leverkusen announces the departure of coach Alonso, future revealed

Bayer Leverkusen have officially confirmed that coach Xabi Alonso will leave at the end of this season, after two and a half years in charge. According to numerous reports, the Spaniard is close to a deal to take over at Real Madrid, replacing Carlo Ancelotti, who is expected to take over as Brazil coach.

Alonso made history by leading Leverkusen to their first Bundesliga title last season, a feat that ended Bayern Munich's decades-long unbeaten run in the league. In addition to the league title, Leverkusen also secured the German Cup, capping off an extraordinary season.

His contract with the German club was valid until 2026, but the parties have agreed to end the cooperation ahead of time.
