The first Nipt test to be carried out in Albania is already being carried out near the Cambridge laboratory.

It is a last-generation invasive prenatal test based on the analysis of fetal DNA present in the mother's blood.

"It is the first time that this test is found in the Balkans. This is a good thing because Nipt is a genetic test and the genetic test must be done at the clinic where you go because it is not enough to take the sample, but the condition of the woman must be evaluated. It should be discussed with him and family risks should be assessed if there are any. So it is also important for the person's privacy," said Giuseppe Novelli, head of the genetics department at Torvergata University in Rome.

The Nipt Vanadis test is performed at the tenth week of pregnancy. Through examinations with Nipt Vanadis, examinations such as Down syndrome, Eduarts syndrome and Patau syndrome are possible.

"The test gives us the opportunity to have information on the risk of the most common chromosomal pathologies. About 98 percent of chromosomal abnormalities can be seen with this test. It is a reliable test and I think it can contribute to the control of pathologies in a country like Albania and I think it is something ideal," said Giuseppe Novelli .

Through a conference, the Cambridge laboratory (part of the American Hospital Group), with the "Bambino Gesu" Hospital, Rome, the "Tor Vergata" University, and the "Palmer di Reggio Emilia" laboratory, presented the important test for every woman.

"This test is very important to be performed in Tirana," said Antonio Novelli, head of the genetics department at Bambino Gesu.
