China confirms first case of monkeypox

The Chinese city of Chongqing reported a case of monkeypox virus infection on Friday in an individual who arrived from abroad, marking the first known monkeypox infection in China amid the latest global outbreak of the virus.

The risk of transmission of the virus is low, as the patient was quarantined upon his arrival in the city, a relevant announcement underlined, in which it is noted that all his close contacts have been traced and are under medical observation.

About 90 countries in the world where monkeypox is not endemic have reported outbreaks of this disease, for which the World Health Organization has declared a global public health emergency - the highest level of alert. / CNA.al Source: Reuters
