A leadership consultant who studies workplace psychology has spent more than 30 years helping thousands of individuals persevere in difficult relationships, writes CNBC.

I have found that one of the most difficult personality types to deal with are highly insecure people. These are the people who find comfort in stable and predictable environments. They prefer security and despise change. But change is a must for success.

Unfortunately, I have seen many teams and organizations fail because of one very insecure person standing in the way. The first step to preventing things from getting worse is knowing how to identify them.

Are you dealing with a very insecure person?

Here are seven things highly insecure people say when they sense change coming:

1. I don't have time for this. Other priorities are more important.

2. I already tried this [or something similar], but it didn't work.

3. This is just another way for management to cut jobs.

4. This is a useless idea. Everything works fine as it is.

5. This may work for others, but it doesn't for me.

6. Can't think of anything else? I don't feel that.

7. It is clear that whoever came up with this idea is not aware of the complexity of my work.
