A new cancer drug that is challenging chemotherapy

Some children in the UK with cancer are receiving a new type of drug treatment that is far less toxic than chemotherapy/ 

Arthur, 11, is one of the first to try it, at London's Great Ormond Street Hospital, after being diagnosed with the serious illness.

For Arthur, the drug blinatumomab or blina was his only real option after his chemotherapy had failed to clear all the cancer and left him in a very weak state, the BBC reports.

Blina is already licensed to treat adults with cancer, and experts hope to show it can safely help children as well.

Around 20 centers across the UK are using it. 

The drug is an immunotherapy that seeks out cancer cells so that the body's immune system can recognize and destroy them.
