Breast cancer is one of the most widespread diseases and cases of this type of disease are increasing.

During an interview on the "Opinion" show, surgeon Edlira Rehovica said that Albania has a different reality than other countries.

In our country, in 90% of operations, total breast removal is performed and this is because women and girls are not checked and present in a very advanced disease situation.

"It is difficult for them to come to the doctor for a check-up. They say we caught a mass, but it didn't hurt us, that's why we didn't come. Bad breast formations, with a few minor exceptions, do not hurt. They are small formations that grow so gradually, making room for themselves that they do not give any sign of pain.

The moment you don't have any of these signs, you say "nothing will pass, it's a mammary gland", because this is the notion. Meanwhile, the whole breast is a gland. As a result, they come in very advanced stages, where there is no need to touch the formation, but when the woman undresses, you can see the deformation that this mass has created in the breast. 

During my residency in Italy, in Milan, in 3 months of surgery, there was a need to perform a total mastectomy, all other surgeries were minimal. Meanwhile, the reality in Albania is quite different! In 90% of operations, you are forced to remove the breast completely, and in very few operations, you have to do a breast-conserving surgery," the surgeon said./ CNA
