The Minister of Health and Social Protection Ogerta Manastirliu has closely inspected the new dental cabinet at the 9-year-old school "28 Nõntori" in the area of ??Lapraka, which serves about 1 thousand children of this area. Manastirliu emphasized that the investment in new dental cabinets will continue this year as well.

"During the year 2022, we managed to install 18 dental units in the schools of Tirana and in schools of other districts in Durrës, Elbasan, Shkodër. More than 116 children through the dentistry program have completed the free screening in terms of dental care in schools and on the other hand, more than 40% of them are students who also received free examinations or consultations at school, making us take more care of children's health. For 2023, we will continue the dentistry program and to be 18 new dental units which will be distributed in all the schools of the country", said Manastirliu.

At the "28 Nentori" school, Minister Manastirliu saw closely the screenings for the vision program, where she assessed the importance of this program in relation to the eye health of children in schools.

"It is very important that in the process of screening and viewing we always have and provide information about the parent, so given that we have already performed over 130 thousand screenings and there is a figure, which is significant, because it is 10-13% of children who are checked for vision, who must be evaluated by a specialist doctor, and this is a moment that made us appreciate this program even more", said Manastirliu.

The school dental service program and the vision care program serve about 230,000 children in the age group of 6-14 years. After the establishment of 18 new dental cabinets in the schools of Tirana, Elbasan, Shkodra and Durrës, since February, the provision of a new dental service for school children, mainly in rural areas, with two Mobile Dental Units, has started. About 5,000 screenings have been carried out, while the expansion of this service will continue with 18 new dental offices during 2023 in other regions of the country as well./ CNA.al
