In the "Koço Gliozheni" maternity hospital, for the first time in Albania, conditions with optimal quality and infrastructure are being created to carry out the free in-vitro reproduction procedure. The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Ogerta Manastirliu, has inspected the newest investment in the "Koço Gliozheni" maternity hospital, where the Assisted Reproduction Center is being built, the first in public health structures in Albania.

"The in-vitro reproduction program is foreseen in the 2023 state budget to provide optimal quality and conditions for those patients who will become parents thanks to the assisted reproduction procedure. "Koço Gliozheni" maternity hospital is one of our structures that will be the first to implement this program. A program, which will then be extended to the "Queen Geraldine" maternity hospital, but of course we need to not only have the necessary infrastructure and equipment, but also to have the staff, which requires a specialization and requires training and education in the future with regard to these techniques, which we want to realize in the 'Koço Gliozheni' maternity hospital and then continue in the 'Queen Geraldine' maternity hospital", said Minister Manastirliu .

Assisted reproduction will be guaranteed for free, according to a projection starting at 100 cases per year.

"We are focused on increasing the staff now, while we have added two biologists to the staff. We have the opportunity to continue the training and in terms of obstetrician-gynecologists and anesthetists, the nurses who will also work in this center and we will have the opportunity to start with 100 cases in the first year and then increase the number of cases, just as we want and designed it. This will be an investment, which will continue because the support in terms of therapies, which are carried out following this procedure, will be financed from the state budget", said Minister Manastirliu .

At the end of the speech, Minister Ogerta Manastirliu mentioned the hospital autonomy program for the "Koço Gliozheni" maternity hospital, when she said that "I am confident that this hospital will also move at a faster pace with managerial autonomy, so that we can then pave the way for it and financial autonomy of the hospital".

After the investment in the operating block in the "Koço Gliozheni" maternity hospital, work is continuing on the reconstruction of the reception center, the day hospital and the investment in the Assisted Reproduction Center, the first center in public hospitals. This center will be organized with: 2 biologists, 2 dedicated obstetrician-gynecologists, 2 nurses, 2 anesthesiologists. The investment for the assisted reproduction center in the "Koço Gliozheni" maternity hospital is expected to be completed within September of this year./ CNA.al
