Decision approved by Shkodra Municipality/New criteria for funeral agencies

The Municipality of Shkodra has approved, by decision of the Municipal Council, the detailed criteria for the licensing of Funeral Agencies and Funeral Homes (Reception Halls), establishing clear standards for the facilities where this service is offered.

The General Director of the Legal Directorate in the Municipality of Shkodra, Griselda Dama, stated that all entities must meet the criteria approved in March of this year by September 25th. 

"The Municipality of Shkodra, in implementation of VKM 711, where it has the obligation to approve the criteria of funeral agencies, with the decision of the Municipal Council, the licensing criteria have been approved. Based on the law, there is a 6-month deadline from the moment of approval. So, all entities that exercise activity in Shkodra will take measures for licensing to develop the activity. Entities have been called several times to obtain licenses. September 25 is the deadline for their voluntary licensing," said Dama.

Dama warned that in case the criteria are not implemented by September 25, measures will be taken according to the laws in force.

"On the contrary, like any unlicensed entity that does not meet legal criteria, it is necessary for the Municipality of Shkodra to take measures to close them down," said Dama.

According to the new regulation:

They are not allowed to operate in the Historic Center of the City. They are not allowed to operate in multi-family residential buildings or in the extensions of these buildings. They must be at least 50 meters away from educational facilities. They are not allowed in shared facilities used by other entities. Funeral service vehicles cannot stay or park in public spaces. /CNA
