Opposition in Electoral Reform/ Petrit Vasili: Return to the June 5th agreement

Politician Petrit Vasili has today shared a critical stance towards the majority and the opposition on Electoral Reform.

Through a post on social media, Vasili states that this reform has turned into an empty political refrain.

According to Vasili, the role of the Albanian opposition in this reform is simply a farce, as according to him, it serves the majority and the best solution is to leave the committee table, so as not to further tarnish its image in front of Albanians and internationals.

"Enough with the Electoral Reform slogans, go back to June 5th, or the opposition should leave that table!"

Electoral reform has finally turned into an empty and bankrupt political refrain, where the parties constantly sit at the table, Gjiknuri and Bylykbashi are always there, while the elections always end in disaster and are hijacked by Rama.

The Albanian opposition must understand that participation in this Commission is simply a service rendered to the electoral farce and not its solution.

This farce only serves Rama and no one else and shows an opposition with complexes, afraid of what some corrupt foreigners will say about Rama.

The repeated refrain of achieving consensual drafts of legal amendments is a well-heard and overheard nonsense that has not yielded the slightest result in practice, but instead has recycled choices that are more disgusting than the previous ones.

The emblematic example remains the agreement of June 5, 2020, which was scrapped by Rama.

The June 5th agreement was consensual and internationally supported like no other agreement.

It was prepared at the American embassy in Tirana and the signing was witnessed by three ambassadors: the US, the EU, and the UK.

Secretary of State Pompeo, the European Union, and the OSCE universally welcomed the agreement.

Reality showed that Edi Rama violated the June 5 agreement, and also changed the Constitution within a day.

Today the opposition has virtually zero international guarantees compared to June 5th.

Then the question arises: what does the opposition do at that farcical table, the product of which is predicted in simple words: "so let's make some changes just to show off and say we made a reform."

Whose interests does the opposition satisfy at that table where the characters are once again Gjiknuri and Bylykbashi?

Two farcical electoral reforms that produced two sets of elections in 2021 and 2025, one with a darker face than the other.

Where in 2025 the most spectacular failure was the immigrant vote, which ended in a black vote.

So the solution is very simple.

If the opposition believes it will achieve any results in this Electoral Reform Commission, let it put on the table as a non-negotiable proposal the June 5 agreement, to which Rama and Rilindja had already given written consent.

If Gjiknuri and the majority reject June 5, the opposition must run away from that table to avoid becoming ridiculous and unbelievable in the eyes of Albanians.
