Shakira has reached an agreement with Spanish prosecutors to settle a tax fraud case. Colombian pop star Shakira reached this agreement as her trial was about to begin.

The singer has been accused of tax fraud in the amount of 14.5 million and would be tried in a Barcelona court.

Media reports that the singer answered "yes" to the question of admitting to six charges of failing to pay the Spanish government 14.5 million euros (about $15.8 million) in taxes between 2012 and 2014.

Spanish prosecutors initially requested eight years in prison and a fine of 23.8 million euros if found guilty.

Shakira, who has repeatedly denied the allegations, decided to accept the deal with Spanish prosecutors, seeing the best interest of her children.

While I was determined to defend my innocence in a trial that my attorneys were confident would have decided in my favor, I have made the decision to finally settle this matter in the best interest of my children, who do not want to see mom sacrifice her personal well-being in this fight.

I need to get over the stress and emotional toll of the last few years and focus on the things I love – my kids and all the opportunities to get back into my career, including my upcoming world tour and my new album. For both, I'm extremely excited." - said in Shakira's long reaction.
