The 60th Anniversary of Nostra Aetate/Heritage Reminds Us That Dialogue Is an
October 28th of this year marks the 60th anniversary of Nostra Aetate, the historic declaration of the Second Vatican Council on the Church’s relations with followers of other religions. For six decades, this document has guided the Holy See and local churches around the world in building meaningful relationships and interreligious cooperation.

We celebrate this anniversary in the framework of the Jubilee Year, a Pilgrimage of Hope, at a time when our world still faces conflicts and uncertainties. Over these 60 years, interreligious dialogue has proven to be a powerful force for healing wounds, preventing conflicts and building bridges of understanding. As Pope Francis reminds us: “Let us be artisans of peace, capable of imagining and building a new path of encounter and dialogue” (Fratelli Tutti, 225). These words were also echoed by Pope Leo XIV in his address to representatives of different religions: “The witness of our fraternity, which I hope we will show with concrete gestures, will undoubtedly contribute to building a more peaceful world, something that all people of good will desire in their hearts” (19 May 2025).

To mark this anniversary, the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue is organizing a series of activities, starting with a *Commemorative Ceremony on October 28, to be held in the **Paul VI Hall, in the Vatican, in the presence of **Pope Leo XIV.* The General Audience led by the Holy Father on October 29 will also be dedicated to the theme of interreligious dialogue.

This anniversary invites us to renew our commitment to interreligious dialogue and education as essential ways to meet today's challenges. The legacy of Nostra Aetate reminds us that dialogue is not just an intellectual endeavor, but a moral and social obligation. This event is a meaningful opportunity to come together in a spirit of hope and unity.
