Dozens of police forces, supported by helicopters and drones, are directed almost every day to the mountainous area in the north of Albania, where the phenomenon of cultivating narcotic plants is most widespread.

The coded police operations "Clean Alps" and "Clean Territory" have been taking place for several months in this area where, since the beginning of the year, more than 160,000 seedlings and narcotic plants, suspected to be cannabis sativa, have been discovered and destroyed.

But this amount is thought to be only a part of what is cultivated in the field. In terms of the number of destroyed plants, Shkodra County with its 5 municipalities is at the top of the map of the cultivation of narcotic plants in Albania.

Only in the last two weeks, the police destroyed by burning about 50 thousand narcotic plants, distributed in small plots, in deep mountainous and uninhabited areas, where even the local police forces find it almost impossible to control the territory.

The most plots with narcotic plants were discovered in the area of ??Dukagjin, Shkodra Municipality, in the mountainous administrative units of Shala, Shoshi, Pulti and Temal.

For almost 30 years, this is also the area where anti-cannabis police operations have been concentrated, but without being able to stop the phenomenon of cultivating narcotic plants. A small population lives in this area, due to difficult living conditions and the migration of a large number of families to urban areas. This has favored criminal groups to use the territory for the cultivation of cannabis.

The police operations "Clean Alps" and "Clean Territory" have caused significant damage to criminal groups practicing the cultivation of narcotic plants, which has also brought their reaction. At least 7 cases of placing explosive materials near the residences of Shkodra police officers, as well as the placement of explosive materials in the residence of a judge, are suspected to be part of the reaction of individuals and criminal groups to the disposal of drug parcels. /VOA
