An Albanian man known by the nickname "Titi" has been arrested in an armed clash with Greek police officers, in which he himself was injured. According to Greek media reports, the incident took place outside a business in Mikrolimano in Piraeus in the early hours of this morning.

As soon as he noticed the police, the Albanian with the initials A. Xh, 42, pulled out his gun and attempted to shoot at the officers. One of the officers shot at him to neutralize him, wounding him.

During the investigations and checks carried out, the Albanian was found in possession of two fully loaded and ready-to-use pistols, as well as a revolver.

It is worth noting that the pistol he pointed at the police officer had one bullet, as well as a 32-round magazine. At the same time, at the point where he was initially found, a backpack containing a quantity of drugs, as well as six hand grenades, was found.

The Albanian was known to the authorities because he had been accused for several years of a series of serious criminal offenses, including murder, attempted murder, criminal organization, kidnapping, taking a police officer hostage, rape, theft and robbery.

He was arrested in Albania in 2019 and served his sentence until 2025. Then, in 2026, according to investigative data so far, he had illegally entered Greek territory. 

Greek police statement:

In the early hours of this morning, May 23, 2026, in Mikrolimano of Piraeus, police officers from the Extortion Crimes Prosecution Department of the Organized Crime Directorate, as part of the checks they were carrying out in businesses, noticed a man outside a shop in the area, whom they considered suspicious and decided to continue with his check.

Upon seeing the police officers, the subject attempted to drive away. The police officers, stating their status, called on him to stop, however he pointed a weapon he was carrying at a police officer, with the apparent intent to use it. Another police officer, realizing the danger, used his personal weapon, resulting in the subject being injured and immobilized.

An emergency medical service was immediately called to the scene and transported the injured man to the hospital, where he is receiving the necessary treatment, while the competent Prosecutor has also been notified.

During the searches, 2 fully loaded and ready-to-use pistols, as well as a revolver, were found in the citizen's possession. It is worth noting that the pistol he pointed at the police officer had a bullet in the chamber, as well as a magazine with 32 rounds.

At the same time, at the point where he was initially found, a backpack containing a quantity of narcotics was found, as well as 6 hand grenades, for which reason the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Department of the Greek Police was called and arrived.

During preliminary investigations, it emerged that he is a 42-year-old foreigner who, since 1995, has been in the hands of the authorities for a number of serious criminal offenses, including murder, attempted murder, criminal organization, kidnapping and hostage-taking of a police officer, rape, theft and robbery.

At the same time, a red notice and a European arrest warrant were pending against him for attempted murder, joint and serial robberies, kidnapping, prisoner escape, resistance, illegal possession of weapons and use of weapons.

The man in question was arrested abroad in 2019 and served his sentence in his country until 2025, and then, in 2026, according to investigative data so far, he illegally entered our country.

It is noted that the prison and detention sentences pending against him in our country amount to more than 73 years.
