Abuse of SASPAC funds / GJKKO's appeal leaves Beqaj and the other accused

On Wednesday, the Special Court of Appeal has announced the decision and leaves in force the security measures for the former Minister of Health Ilir Beqaj and the other 6 suspects, accused by SPAK for the scandal of extorting EU funds through the SASPAK agency .

The accused demanded the replacement of security measures, but the black squads did not consider their demands. Beqaj has offered a property guarantee of 5 million ALL for a more lenient measure.

While his colleague Ermal Kurtulaj, in the hearing two days ago, asked for a more lenient measure because according to him, he has two minor children and a sick mother.

The Special Court of Appeal for Corruption and Organized Crime, with a monocratic panel composed of judge Engert Pëllumbi, today on 07.08.2024, announced the decision on criminal case no. 30 act, date 29.07.2024 registration, on the appeal of the Special Prosecution against Corruption and Organized Crime, and the appeals of persons under investigation IB, EK, AN, GH, EM, BL, MJ, BZ, with object: "Appeal against decision no. 65, dated 03.07.2024, verified by decision no. 73, dated 06.07.2024 of the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime", disposed of in the case of personal security measures, and decided:

1. Approval of decision no. 65, dated 03.07.2024, of the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime, verified by decision no. 73, dated 06.07.2024, of this court, for the persons under investigation IB, EK, AN, EM, BL and BZ
2. Approval of decision no. 65, dated 03.07.2024, of the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime, verified by decision no. 77, dated 11.07.2024, of this court, for the person under investigation GH
3. The amendment of decision no. 65, dated 03.07.2024, of the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime, for the person under MJ investigation, in this way:
- Assigning to the person under MJ investigation, the coercive personal security measure "Compulsion to appear before the judicial police", provided by article 234 of the Code of Criminal Procedure;
- The person under MJ investigation is ordered to appear before the judicial police officer Samet Gurguri, at the National Bureau of Investigation, on the first and third Monday of every month, at 12:00;
- The Special Prosecutor's Office against Corruption and Organized Crime is charged with the execution of this decision.
4. Against this decision, an appeal can be made to the Supreme Court, within 45 (forty-five) days from the day after its announcement. /CNA
