Ukrainian official demands destruction of Iranian weapons

Mykhailo Podolyak, a senior adviser to the Ukrainian president, has called for the destruction of Iranian factories that produce drones and missiles. He also demanded the arrest of their suppliers.

Podolyak said on December 24 that Iran is "openly humiliating the institution of international sanctions".

Kiev has accused Tehran of supplying Moscow with 1,700 Shahed-136 kamikaze drones, which they say were used to strike targets in Ukraine.

Iran has admitted sending drones to Russia, but has said the shipments were made before Moscow invaded Ukraine in February. Moscow has denied using Iranian drones in the war against Ukraine.

On December 19, Russia attacked Ukraine with dozens of kamikaze drones, hitting critical infrastructure in and around Kiev. This was the third airstrike that Moscow has carried out on the Ukrainian capital in less than a week.

Kamikaze drones are cheap to manufacture and fly towards the target detonating explosives on contact with the target.

Britain, the United States and the European Union have sanctioned individuals of the Iranian military and defense companies for their involvement in supplying Russia with Iranian drones.
