Zelensky: The Ukrainian counterattack has begun
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Saturday, June 10, that a counterattack against Russian forces is already underway but declined to give any details.

"Counteroffensive and defensive actions are taking place in Ukraine: at which stage I will not speak in detail," Zelensky said at a joint press conference in Kiev with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

A journalist asked Zelensky for comment after Russian President Vladimir Putin claimed that Kiev's long-awaited counteroffensive was already failing.

"It is interesting what Putin said about our counterattack. It is important that Russia always feels this: that there is not much time, in my opinion," Zelensky said.

He added that he was in daily contact with military commanders, including the head of the armed forces, Valery Zaluzhny, and "everyone is positive now -- tell that to Putin," Zelensky said.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022 when Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered Russian military forces to move into Ukraine.

Since that time, Ukraine has been facing the Russian invasion and for weeks there has been talk about the possibility of a counterattack by Ukrainian forces./ REL
