The capital of Sri Lanka has been engulfed in protests this Saturday due to the economic crisis in the country.
Protesters have attacked government buildings, including the presidential residence in Colombo.
The police are using tear gas to disperse them, but the situation has gotten out of control. The following images show moments from the protest, where protesters have occupied the streets of the capital and some of them are inside government buildings.
Citizens demand the resignation of the president, considered responsible for the economic crisis that has gripped the country, with record inflation, shortages of fuel, electricity and food.
Local media reports that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's is in another safe place and protected by the military unit.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe, has called an emergency meeting of the government.
On Friday, the government decreed a curfew to discourage protesters, but the measure was withdrawn after protests by opposition parties and human rights organizations.
