Israel's campaign in northern Gaza continues

Residents of Beit Hanoun, in northern Gaza, said they were ordered by Israeli forces on Sunday to leave the town.

The directive prompted a new wave of displacement, but it remains unclear how many Palestinians were affected.

Israel says its nearly three-month campaign in northern Gaza is targeting Hamas militants, aiming to prevent them from regrouping.

The military says evacuation orders are issued with the goal of keeping civilians away from danger zones.

But United Nations and Palestinian officials say there is no safe place in Gaza and that the evacuations are worsening the humanitarian conditions of the population.

Much of the area around the northern towns of the region, such as Beit Hanoun, Jabalia and Beit Lahiya, has been razed and people have fled, fueling speculation that Israel intends to keep the area as a closed neutral zone after the end of the war in Gaza.

On Friday, Israeli forces entered the Kamal Adwan hospital in northern Gaza. The army said the hospital was being used by militants, but Hamas has denied this.

As a result of the Israeli campaign against Hamas in Gaza, more than 45,000 Palestinians have been killed, according to health officials in the region controlled by the militant group.

The war was caused by the attack of Hamas in the southern part of Israel on October 7, 2023, during which 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken hostage./VOA
