Asia Tour/ Trump: Series of official visits to Malaysia, Japan and South Korea

US President Donald Trump has officially announced a series of visits to Asia next month. In Japan, Trump is scheduled to meet with the newly elected prime minister.

"I'll be in Malaysia, I'll be in Japan, I'll be in a few others. We'll do a little tour," Trump told reporters.

Trump will first attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, or ASEAN, meeting in Malaysia, which begins next Sunday.

After that, he is expected to stop in Japan for about three days. In addition to meeting with Japan's new leader, he plans to give a speech to American service members at a U.S. naval base in Yokosuka, near Tokyo.

Trump will then head to South Korea, as he hosts the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, or APEC, meeting at the end of the month.

He is scheduled to meet there with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Trump said the situation in Taiwan will be one of the issues they will discuss.

Trump mentioned that he plans to visit China early next year and said the two countries will have a very good relationship. /CNA
