Russia's wealthy increased their wealth by $152 billion

Russia's wealthy increased their wealth by $152 billion last year thanks, among other things, to high natural resource prices, Forbes reports. 

According to the latest official data, Russia has 110 billionaires, which is 22 more than a year ago, Reuters reports. Their total wealth rose from $353 billion to $505 billion.

The list of billionaires would be even longer if some rich people had not renounced their Russian citizenship.

Russia's economy shrank by 2.1 percent under pressure from Western sanctions, but it was able to sell oil, metals and other natural resources on global markets, particularly to China, India and the Middle East.

The new names of Russia's rich on the Forbes list include billionaires who made their fortunes through the production of chemicals, pharmaceuticals, foodstuffs, as well as the construction industry, showing that demand in the Russian market remains strong despite sanctions .
