The first country in the world/Sweden to legalize same-sex marriage and adoption

Slovenia's parliament on Tuesday approved an amendment allowing same-sex couples to marry and adopt after a constitutional court ruling made it the first country in Eastern Europe to do so.

The amendment to the family law was approved with 48 deputies, 29 against and one abstention.

Slovenia, which emerged from the breakup of Yugoslavia, is the first ex-communist country to adopt the reform in Europe, as most of its neighbors do not allow civil unions or same-sex marriage.

The main opposition party, the Slovenian Democratic Party, criticized the court's decision and organized several rallies against the new law.
