Huge explosion in a night club in Cologne/ One person is injured

An explosion rocked the center of Cologne in West Germany on Monday.

The explosion occurred at the entrance to the Vanity nightclub in the Hohenzollernring area, known as a major entertainment district of Cologne, at around 5:50 a.m. local time, a police spokesman told NBC News.

Police said that at least one person may have been slightly injured in the incident.

Several glass windows were apparently blown out in the explosion "and would likely have injured more people if the explosion had occurred later," the spokesman said.

Local authorities said in a post on X on Monday that a "major" police operation was underway as they asked residents to avoid the Hohenzollernring area.

The cause of the explosion is not yet known.

The police told NBC News that the area is under the surveillance of security cameras and that the footage will be part of the ongoing investigation./ CNA
