Russia says Ukraine attacked Crimea with Storm Shadow missiles

Authorities in Russian-occupied Crimea said Ukraine had attacked the port city of Sevastopol with Storm Shadow missiles, while Ukrainian officials reported Russian drone strikes in several regions.

Mikhail Razvozhayev, the Russian-installed governor of the annexed Crimean Peninsula, wrote on Telegram on May 27 that military forces and mobile fire units spent the night repelling a combination of drone and missile attacks.

"The Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the city using various aerial weapons, including Storm Shadow missiles," Razvozhayev said, adding later that a bank building had been hit by a missile.

The Russian military reported on May 27 that its air defenses had shot down three Storm Shadow missiles over the past 24 hours.

Kiev has not commented on these Russian reports, which could not be independently confirmed.

Ukraine has used Storm Shadow missiles, produced by a Franco-British consortium, as part of its campaign targeting Russian military targets and energy infrastructure in an attempt to reduce Moscow's revenues and undermine its ability to continue the war against Ukraine, which is now in its fifth year.

Russia, which annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014, had earlier summoned the British and French ambassadors to a meeting to protest Ukraine's use of these weapons.

Meanwhile, Russian officials reported other drone and missile attacks inside Russia, including in the cities of Voronezh, Tuapse and Taganrog.

In the southern port city of Taganrog, two people were injured after Russian air defenses intercepted a missile, the city's mayor, Svetlana Kambulova, wrote on Telegram.

According to the Russian-language Telegram channel ASTRA, the attack caused a fire at the 325th aircraft repair plant in Taganrog. It is not known whether the plant was damaged.

In Voronezh, according to regional governor Aleksandr Gusev, debris from downed drones damaged a tire service building.

OSINT analysis from the ASTRA channel on Telegram suggested that the target of the attack was the Baltimore military airport, where the 47th Guards Bomber Aviation Regiment of the Russian Guards is deployed.

Authorities in the Russian region of Krasnodar Krai reported that debris from a drone fell on the port terminal in Tuapse, causing a fire that authorities said was quickly extinguished.

According to ASTRA, one of the explosions in Tuapse likely occurred near an oil refinery, making this the fifth attack on this oil facility in recent months.

Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty has been unable to confirm this claim.

Ukrainian authorities, meanwhile, reported new Russian air strikes overnight, when, according to them, 163 attack drones were used.

In the northern city of Chernihiv, an official from the local military administration said the city faced a major attack overnight, with about 15 explosions reported. But no casualties were reported.

Five people were killed and two others were injured as a result of a Russian attack in the eastern Donetsk region, governor Vadym Filashkin said on May 27./REL
