Russia attacks Kiev and Kharkiv

Kiev was the subject of two waves of drone attacks in the early hours of November 5, the Ukrainian capital's mayor, Vitali Klitscho, said. He added that air defense systems in Kiev are working to repel the second attack in Obolonski district, in the northeast, after Holosvivski district in the south was also hit by Russian drones a day earlier.

In a Telegram post, Klitschko called on residents to stay in shelters.

In Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city, two women were wounded by Russian shelling on November 5, Mayor Ihor Terekhov said.

In recent weeks, Kiev and Kharkiv have been the target of almost daily Russian airstrikes as Ukraine prepares for the third winter since Russia launched its invasion of the neighboring country.

The Ukrainian Air Force, separately, said it shot down 48 of the 79 drones launched by Russia over Ukrainian regions.

Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that it has destroyed six Russian drones over the Briyansk region./REL
