Just days after expressing support for the protests in Iran, Faezeh Hashemi, the daughter of former president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, was arrested in the Iranian capital on unknown charges. The Tasnim news agency, which is affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, reported on September 27 that Hashemi was arrested by security forces in eastern Tehran for "inciting riots. Before his arrest, Hashemi had said authorities were referring to protests that have shaken the Islamic Republic in the last 12 days as "riots" and "uprisings", with the aim of suppressing them.
