The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, will visit Russia on December 22 to discuss the creation of a safety zone around the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine, RIA Novosti news agency reports.
This nuclear power plant has been one of the targets of the Russian army since the start of the war in Ukraine at the end of February.
Moscow and Kiev have blamed each other for the bombings around the plant, which have raised fears of a nuclear catastrophe.
Grossi had met Russian President Vladimir Putin in October as part of the Agency's efforts to prevent an accident.
Putin had told Grossi that he is "open to dialogue" about the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, and that the situation is "worrying".
Last week, a decision was made to send International Atomic Energy Agency teams to all of Ukraine's nuclear power plants.
The decision to send IAEA teams to all the plants is part of an effort to avoid a catastrophe in the war zone.
The nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia is the largest in Europe and among the ten largest in the world./REL
