Donald John Trump (born June 14, 1946) is an American politician, businessman, and media personality who served as the 45th president of the United States from 2017 to 2021 and is the current president-elect following the 2024 election.
He is expected to take office as the 47th president on January 20, 2025. A member of the Republican Party, Trump is the first president in US history with no prior military or government experience, and only the second to be elected twice in non-consecutive terms, after Grover Cleveland in 1892.
In June 2015, Trump decided to run as the next president of the United States. On November 8, 2016, he was elected as the 45th President of the United States, defeating Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. He took office on January 20, 2017. In terms of age, Trump is the oldest president in US history.

Born and raised in New York, he received his Bachelor's degree in economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1968.
Donald Trump has five children from three marriages and eight nephews and nieces. He first married Czech model Ivana Zelniskova on April 7, 1977. They had three children, Donald Trump, Jr., Ivanka Trump, and Eric Trump, who are executive vice presidents at The Trump Organization. They divorced in 1991.
After the divorce, Donald married American actress Marla Maples in 1993. They have a daughter Tiffany Trump. They separated in May 1997 and divorced in June 1999.
Donald Trump became engaged to Melania Knauss in April 2014 and married her in 2015. Together they have one son, Barron Trump.
Trump began his career in business as an heir to estates left by his father to him and his other siblings and their children. In a statement he said that he started his career with a debt of 1 million dollars from his father. At the time of running for president, his officially declared wealth amounted to $8,737,540,000.

The main assets of his wealth include numerous buildings and real estate. Almost in every major city of the United States there is a high-rise building of the Trump Organization, which was run by Donald Trump since 1971. His organization also owns a large number of other luxury facilities such as casinos, golf courses, etc.
Trump is also engaged in the field of media, being the creator of a reality show called "The Apprentice" and also through owning the broadcast rights of the "Miss Universe" program, which he sold in 2015.
After being elected president, his children run the Trump Organization.
In December 2015, Trump said in an interview that he had a "conflict of interest" in relations with Turkey and Turkish President Tayyip Erdo?an because of his Trump Towers in Istanbul, saying "I have a little conflict of interest because I have a building major in Istanbul and it is an extremely successful work ... It is called Trump Towers - two towers instead of one ... I have come to know Turkey very well.
Trump has changed parties several times in his career. He registered as a Republican in Manhattan in 1987, and two years later switched to the Reform Party. In 2001, he joined the Democratic Party before switching back to the Republicans in 2009.

In 1987, Trump in the most popular American media advertised his ideas to protect peace in Central America, accelerate nuclear disarmament talks with the Soviet Union and reduce the federal budget deficit by making American allies pay "their share of right" for military protection. He ruled out running for local office but not for the presidency.
In 1999, Trump established an exploratory committee to seek the Reform Party nomination for the 2000 presidential election. A July 1999 poll placed him against Republican presumptive George W. Bush and Democratic presumptive Al Gore ; Trump had 7% support. He gave up running for president in February 2000.
Trump's election victory in 2016 sparked protests in the United States. Americans opposed his policies as well as some of the speeches he gave during the campaign. Trump tweeted that they were "professional, media-fueled protesters" and "unfair," but later added: "I love the fact that small groups of protesters have passion for our great country. Served as the 45th president of the United States from 2017 to 2021.
The 2020 campaign to run for office kicked off with a rally in Melbourne, Florida on February 18, 2017, less than a month after taking office. In his first two years in office, Trump's re-election committee announced the raising of $67.5 million, allowing him to start 2019 with $19.3 million on hand. From early 2019 to July 2020, the Trump campaign and the Republican Party raised $1.1 billion, but spent $800 million of that amount, fading their previous cash advantage over former Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Baiden.

Trump became the Republican nominee on August 24, 2020. In the spring of that year, he began raising doubts about the election, repeatedly warning that it would be "rigged" and claiming that the expected widespread use of mail-in voting would produced "massive electoral fraud".
When the House of Representatives voted for a $25 billion grant to the US Postal Service to allow it to handle the expected increase in mail-in voting, Trump blocked the funding. In what the New York Times called an "extraordinary breach of presidential decorum," Trump floated the idea on July 30 of delaying the election.
Trump campaign ads have focused on crime, claiming that cities would descend into lawlessness if his opponent, Biden, won the presidency. Trump has misrepresented Biden's positions during the campaign. Some sources described Trump's campaign message as shifting to "racist rhetoric" in an attempt to win back voters lost to his base.
On November 7, 2020, after four days of vote counting, most mainstream media outlets predicted Biden as the winner of the presidential election. Trump showed that he does not accept this result and said "this election is never over". He revived his claims of election fraud and said he would launch legal challenges in key swing states.
Trump decided to run again in the 2024 presidential election. He chose JD Vance, a senator from Ohio, as his running mate. Vance's political views are similar to Trump's, particularly on issues such as immigration, trade and protecting the interests of working-class Americans.

He has sharply criticized the Biden administration's immigration policies and has promised to overhaul border and security policies to combat illegal immigration. One of his main points is the renewal of the American economy after the consequences of the pandemic and high inflation. Trump has promised to cut taxes for businesses and individuals, seeking a more pro-business policy. He has also promised to boost domestic production and create jobs by boosting investment in the energy and infrastructure sectors.
Trump has called for a tough stance on China, stressing the need to "restructure trade relations" and protect American interests globally. He has also criticized the foreign policy of the Biden administration, calling it weak in handling the crisis in Ukraine and relations with allies.
Trump's campaign carried the slogan "Make America Great Again" and has continued to use this platform to mobilize support from conservative groups, including those concerned about the social and political changes that occurred during the Biden administration. He has promised to protect the rights of ordinary Americans and oppose efforts to curtail basic freedoms, such as the right to bear arms.

Despite facing accusations and lawsuits, Trump has continued to present himself as a candidate fighting against "elites" and the "rotten system," defending himself as a victim of political persecution. He has used his campaign to mobilize support from those who see him as a clear leader against the justice system and the current administration. The Trump campaign has also offered strong criticism of Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee after Joe Biden withdrew from the race. Trump has taken a harsh tone against her policies and the way the Biden administration has handled issues such as immigration, security and the economy.
In the November 4, 2024 election, Trump won convincingly over Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris. On January 20, 2025, Donald Trump will return to the White House, to serve as the 47th president of the United States, in his second term at the head of one of the strongest states in the world.
