Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has issued a stern warning to Kurdish fighters in Syria and called on them to surrender their weapons or be buried with them.
According to foreign media, the statement comes as clashes continue between Turkish-backed Syrian militant groups and the Kurds following the fall of Bashar al-Assad. Since the fall of Assad, Ankara has repeatedly insisted that the Kurdish militia (YPG) must be disbanded, arguing that the group has no place in Syria's future.
"Separatist killers will say goodbye to their weapons or be buried in Syrian soil with them. We will eliminate the terrorist organization that is trying to weave a wall of blood between us and our Kurdish brothers."
At the same time, he announced that Turkey intends to open a consulate in Aleppo soon.
The Turkish president has not hesitated once again to attack Bashar al-Assad, calling him a coward. "The Syrian people's struggle, full of suffering, reached victory on December 8. The regime collapsed, the coward Assad sold everyone and left Syria. A new page has now been opened for this country. Turkey made the necessary interventions to prevent further bloodshed. This victory is a great success. The Syrian people saved their country from a chain of slaughter. The Syrian people have entered the path of determining their future and we are happy about it. We are happy when we see the flag of Free Syria and the crescent star in Aleppo, Damascus and Homs. We are happy and satisfied when we look at the eyes of oppressed Syrians shining with hope", commented Erdogan.
