The World Health Organization warned of a "high biological risk" from a laboratory seized during the fighting in Sudan.
Officials said it is unclear who is behind the takeover of the National Public Health Laboratory in the capital Khartoum.
For ten days now, the city has been engulfed in fighting between the army and the paramilitary group, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The WHO told the BBC that workers could no longer enter the laboratory and warned that power cuts were making it impossible to properly manage the material there.
Officials said a wide range of biological and chemical materials are stored in the lab.
The facility holds measles and cholera pathogens as well as other hazardous materials.
The lack of electricity is reported to be endangering the reserves of blood bags, which are stored in the laboratory.
The laboratory is located near the center of Khartoum and not far from the city's main airport.
The Federal Ministry of Health in Sudan has reported that 36% of health facilities in Khartoum are non-functional due to fighting./ REL
