Obama, on the list of 500 Americans who are banned from entering Russia

Russia's Foreign Ministry said on Friday that former US President Barack Obama is among 500 US citizens banned from entering Russia.

This decision, according to Russian authorities, was made in response to Washington's latest wave of sanctions against Moscow.

The Russian Ministry has also said that Russia has rejected the US request to gain access to the banned journalist of the American daily, the Wall Street Journal, Evan Gershkovich.

He was arrested in March, under suspicion of espionage.

The move was prompted by the US refusal last month to grant visas to two media outlets who traveled with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to the United Nations, the statement said.

"Washington must have learned a long time ago that not a single hostile attack against Russia will remain without consequences."

Earlier on Friday, the United States sanctioned more than 300 targets in order to punish Russia for the war it launched in Ukraine in February 2022.

The latest action is considered one of the most severe waves of sanctions imposed by the US.

According to US authorities, the sanctions affect future Russian revenues in the field of energy and the supply chain of military-industrial equipment./ REL
