A small plane in New York crashes shortly after takeoff and lands outside a house/ The pilot dies, a passenger is seriously injured

A small plane has crashed in Saratoga County, New York, killing the pilot and injuring a passenger.

The incident occurred the day before, at around 10:30 a.m. local time, in the town of Milton, shortly after the plane took off from nearby Saratoga County Airport.

Investigators say the 1964 Mooney M20E four-seater struck a tree before crashing just outside a house and bursting into flames. Those inside the house at the time of the crash were not injured.

Saratoga County Sheriff Michael Zurlo said the passenger who was ejected from the plane was taken to Albany Medical Center with serious injuries. The pilot died at the scene. Their identities have not yet been released.

Zurlo said the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has been notified of the accident and will work with local authorities to determine the cause of the crash. /CNA
