Trade agreement with the US/ Seoul announces reciprocal tariff reductions

The US and South Korea have reached a broad trade agreement.

Senior South Korean official Kim Yong-beom said both sides would reduce mutual tariffs from 25% to 15%, as agreed.

South Korea will invest $350 billion in the US, including $200 billion in cash investments and $150 billion in shipbuilding.

US President Donald Trump, who is currently on a week-long trip to Asia, said the deal was almost completely finalized at a dinner after discussions that lasted almost two hours. 

Trump had imposed a 25% tariff rate on Seoul earlier this year, which Lee managed to reduce to 15% after Seoul said it would invest $350 billion in the US and buy $100 billion worth of liquefied natural gas./ CNA
