"Never again genocide"/ Pro-Palestinian activists hang banner at Brandenburg Gate in Germany

Pro-Palestinian activists used a crane to hang a banner on the famous Brandenburg Gate, a symbol of Berlin and Germany, but were arrested by police shortly after the event.

Six activists, wearing safety vests, brought the crane into the crowded square at noon. Three of them used the crane to climb to the top of the monument, at a height of 26 meters. Florian Nath, a spokesman for the Berlin police, said they acted very quickly.

"We were there within a few minutes, but the elevator was already going up and we didn't stop it at that moment because it would have been very dangerous in the event of an accident or a fall," he explained.

Three activists climbed the monument, placed a banner reading "No more genocide - Freedom for Palestine" and set off fireworks. The operation to arrest them reportedly lasted about an hour and a half, and they were charged with various criminal offenses, including trespassing. Authorities will also investigate whether the use of the crane caused damage to the 18th-century monument. /CNA
