A 23-year-old woman in Italy gave birth to her child in an unusual way.

Paralyzed, in a coma and in the 35th week of pregnancy, she managed to carry the pregnancy to term thanks to the treatment given at the Polyclinic of Bari.

The 23-year-old originally from Taranto was found by her family lying on the floor of her house due to a cleft cerebral arteriovenous malformation. 

" She was able to carry the pregnancy to the end ," said Professor Megna. 

" The baby is fine and the mother, with a lot of effort from the doctors, is constantly recovering her cognitive and motor function ," she adds. 

Doctors scheduled a cesarean delivery for the 23-year-old. After the birth, the child stayed in the hospital for several days for further recovery.

When the heroine's mother recovered from childbirth, the staff managed to improve her health condition. 

" It was exciting and touching to see the woman moving her right arm and hand, a skill previously lost as a result of the accident. The patient is young, she has many chances for recovery ," said Professor Megna./ CNA.al
