The Republican presidential candidate, former President Donald Trump, and the Democratic presidential candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris, attacked each other as they tried to secure the support of undecided voters in key states.
As the correspondent of "Voice of America", Veronica Balderas Iglesias, announces, the race between the two rivals is expected to become even tougher, when three months remain until the day of the elections.
About 100 days before the election in the United States, Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump intensified his attacks on Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris during a rally in Minnesota.
“We have a new victim now, Kamala. We have a completely new victim. Frankly, she's a crazy left-wing radical," Mr. Trump said.
Even Vice President Harris attacked Mr. Trump during the election rally in Massachusetts.
"You may have noticed that Donald Trump has told some lies about my past and some of the things he and his number two are saying are strange," Ms Harris said.
Ms. Harris' campaign team says she has raised $200 million since entering the race after President Biden withdrew, and that 66 percent of that is from new donors.
The governor of New Hampshire, Republican Chris Sununu, says the enthusiasm over Ms. Harris's candidacy will die down within 30 days. He advises the Republican duo Trump - Vance to focus on their policies, instead of personal attacks.
"Stick to the issues that concern the electorate. People are worried because they can't pay the bills, because they don't feel safe in their homes or communities. These are the issues that will convince them to vote for Trump in November," he says.
The governor of Maryland, Democrat Wes Moore, says he believes Ms. Harris's vision for the future will help her win the trust of undecided voters in swing states.
"I think people are now saying that they can finally discuss the options they have in this election. They see that this is not only a competition for the protection of democracy, but also basic values, the way we think about economic freedoms", he says.
Vice President Harris is expected to announce her number two candidacy before the Democratic National Convention expected to be held in August in Chicago.
Political science professor and member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives, Democrat June Speakman, says that usually the selection of vice presidents is aimed at balancing the candidacy.
"In many cases it is determined by the region. She is from the western part. Therefore, he can choose someone from the central part, to ensure the votes he could not get otherwise. Trump balanced his candidacy with someone who is much younger," says Ms. Speakman.
Ms. Harris has a busy week ahead of her, with a planned election stop in Atlanta, Georgia.
Based on Mr. Trump's campaign website, the Republican candidate will hold election rallies in Pennsylvania, Nevada and Arizona in the coming days./ VOA
