Amnesty International regrets the reactions to the report on Ukraine

Human rights organization Amnesty International said on August 7 that it "deeply regrets the concern and outrage" caused by a report accusing Ukraine of exposing civilians to Russian attacks.

The August 4 report said the Ukrainian military is endangering civilians by deploying in residential buildings, schools and hospitals and launching counterattacks from civilian-populated areas.

The head of Amnesty International's office in Ukraine resigned in protest, accusing the human rights organization of pro-Russian propaganda.

In a statement issued on August 7, the human rights group refused to back down from that assessment.

However, Amnesty acknowledged the scale of the backlash its report had caused.
