How many tons of gold does the Bank of Albania own?

Official data from the Bank of Albania, included in the annual report for 2025, show that the country's total foreign exchange reserves stand at 7.3 billion euros, up from 6.26 billion euros a year earlier. This foreign exchange reserve also includes monetary gold.

According to the report, at the end of December 2025, the gross foreign exchange reserve stock also included about 116.99 thousand ounces, or 3.64 tons of monetary gold.

Figures analyzed by "Scan Intel", referred to "Trading Economics", show that Albania is among the last countries in Europe in terms of foreign exchange reserves in gold. In Europe, only Luxembourg, Malta, Estonia, and Iceland are estimated to have smaller foreign exchange reserves in gold than Albania.

For Serbia, meanwhile, the gold reserve is set at around 53 tons, for North Macedonia at 6.89 tons, while for Bosnia and Herzegovina at around 3.48 tons, referring to the figures for 2025. The United States of America holds first place globally, with foreign exchange reserves in gold set at around 8133 tons. Germany, meanwhile, is first in Europe and second in the world, with 3350 tons of gold in the Central Bank's vault. Then follow Italy, France, Russia and China, which close the first 6 places on the list.

Meanwhile, compared to the population, 3.64 tons of foreign exchange reserves translate into 1.54 grams per capita.

But how are the foreign exchange reserves of the Bank of Albania divided? The largest part of it, or more precisely about 60.3%, is expressed in Euro, 22.3% in Dollar. Meanwhile, monetary gold accounts for 5.9%, SDR 3.7%, RMB 2.7%, British pound 2.5%, Japanese yen 2% and Australian dollar 0.6%.
