The demolition campaign of illegal buildings in Theth continues / In total, 19

For the second day in a row, the campaign to demolish unauthorized constructions continues in the tourist village of Theth in the administrative unit of Shala.

This action began a day ago with the demolition of 10 illegally constructed buildings in the yard of the Theth Church. The action was carried out by the Shkodra Region IKMT with the support of the Shkodra local police and the municipal police. Their demolition turned into a national debate after the reaction of Prime Minister Rama, who described the decision of Shkodra prosecutor Elsa Gjeli to dismiss the case regarding the 10 buildings in the yard of the Theth Church as scandalous.

The Shkodra Prosecution Office reacted by saying that Prime Minister Rama's positions are not valid since the Shkodra police and the Shkodra municipality themselves have not referred these illegally constructed buildings as a criminal offense and that there should be no kind of influence or pressure on the prosecution because according to them, powers are separate and independent, guaranteed by the Albanian Constitution.

In addition to the 10 buildings in question, IKMT's fire brigades have also intervened in 8 other nearby buildings, enabling their demolition, as well as another building that has also collapsed. In total, 19 buildings have been demolished so far.

In recent years, unauthorized construction in Theth has increased significantly, risking the destruction of nature, which has put the institutions in motion. This action has so far not met with opposition from the owners. /CNA
