Today, the Supreme Court issued its decision for the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, who was arrested in February 2025.
At around 2:00 PM, an official announcement came from the Supreme Court stating that decision number 13 (87-2025-85), dated 13.03.2025, of the Court of Appeal for Corruption and Organized Crime, has been left in force.
So, the Supreme Court has REVIEWED the decision of the Court of Appeal of the GJKKO and has left it in force.
Read more simply. There was a court session where, after the appeal made to the High Court by Mr. Veliaj's lawyers, they were heard as parties in the session with their claims, the trial panel also reviewed the decision of the Court of Appeal for Corruption and Organized Crime and decided to leave the decision in force.
So, we are not simply dealing with a decision that was not reviewed or the word "enforcement" simply was not read.
The Supreme Court had another option, which could have been to reject the appeal because the appeal did not meet the legal criteria, but it did not.
The court has considered the appeal, heard the lawyers and made a decision.
Today we are dealing with the FOURTH DECISION by the justice system in Albania for Erion Veliaj.
A great hope with a decision that strongly clarifies and refutes the abusive voices, servants and mercenaries of Erion Veliaj that in Albania the fight against corruption is not at the highest levels.
The fight against corruption with the Supreme Court's decision today goes to another step and shows that the Judiciary can have integrity, the Supreme Court's judicial body is to be commended, although they have not actually been the prey of attacks, accusations, slander or insults like their colleagues at the lower levels of the Courts.
We recall here the banal attacks on Judge Engert Pëllumbi, who issued the decision of the Appeals Chamber, Judge Erjon Bani, who issued two consecutive decisions, and the criminal attacks on him or the prosecutor in the case, Ols Dado.
However, today we are faced with the fact that there is a FOURTH DECISION against Erion Veliaj that keeps him in prison and now the expected steps are the continuation of the investigations and the prosecutors bringing 13 charges to court, 9 for corruption, 1 for abuse of office, 1 for introducing prohibited items into detention cells, 1 for laundering the proceeds of crime and 1 for refusing to declare, failing to declare, concealing or falsely declaring assets and then the decision to proceed to the next stages must be awaited, to finalize the decision against Mayor Erion Veliaj.
Erion Veliaj will no longer be held in prison as alleged, without charges and court decisions. Everyone is clear about the rumors that Erion Veliaj has a fourth decision. The Supreme Court left him in prison and now he must wait for prosecutors to take the case to court to review the 13 charges against him.
