"A channel of anger was opened against me"/ Rama: Albania, at the center of a global clash of algorithms

Prime Minister Edi Rama has stated that recent developments surrounding the Zvwrnec project have turned into a broad public and online debate, becoming, according to him, a "cautionary tale" about the way the digital and political space functions today.

Rama said that in the age of social media, a local event can quickly turn into a global conflict.

According to him, this phenomenon does not bring more knowledge or understanding, but rather produces anger, polarized political and religious identities, as well as the rapid spread of lies in relation to facts and reasoning.

The Prime Minister also emphasized that a development project in Albania has become part of an ideological war that, according to him, has no connection to the reality in the country and has no purpose there.

Rama described the situation as a "cautionary tale" not for his mandate or for the governing majority, but for democracy in the era of algorithms, underlining the need for, according to him, actors with governance responsibilities to better read and understand these dynamics.

"A channel was opened for anger against me, against you, and against the SP.
This new time when a local fight becomes a global clash does not transport new knowledge and friendships, but anger, political and religious identities, aggression, lies much faster than facts and reasoning."

A development project in Albania became part of an ideological war that has no connection to Albania and has no object there. Albania became a bird and we found ourselves in the middle of it as a scheme.

This is a cautionary tale not for my mandate or for the majority, but for democracy in the era of algorithms and for the need for us, the first ones with the responsibility of those who have the mandate to lead Albania, to read this story as accurately as possible in order to be as well prepared as possible.

This is just the beginning. We can do what is done to understand politics today, it is better to step away from it a little and open the history books.

"Long before the world had the internet and not surprisingly, they can help us understand what is happening much better than those who point the finger at us while the finger points to the moon," Rama said./ CNA
