The leader of the Opportunity Party, Fatmir Mediu, said today that the meeting between Prime Minister Edi Rama and the daughter of the US President, Ivanka Trump, should be seen in the context of Albania's strategic interest.

Invited to the "Now" show, Mediu said that it is important how this meeting will affect the relationship with the US, but also in the geopolitical aspect.

"The standard of understanding this relationship is different due to the fact that today Rama has it in a personal sense, while the opposition does not have it in a personal sense, but in the sense of the strategic interest that is necessary for Albania insofar as influence can be created with the US. Because the risk of what is happening is that due to personal interests, it will deviate from the interest of Albanians in the security and economic plan. What comes after this is what benefit is there from this Rama-Trump meeting that it solves the problems that we have, whether in partnership or geopolitical ones. We are a NATO country and beyond, to continue on what is our European integration itinerary.
